It’s true. Fantasy baseball, if you’re an avid player like myself, is all about crunching numbers and developing formulas that help you decide which players should be on your team. And there are a LOT of numbers at your disposal, ready to crunch, just like in Dungeons & Dragons. So many stats, it sometimes causes my numbers-loving head to a splode.
I wasn’t quite sure what to do with this stuff once I found it, but I wanted to make sure to capture it somewhere. Lucky you. My fantasy teams are usually built by tracking a number of run-of-the-mill player stats, and now I’ve found this resource that helps explain a lot of the lesser-known stats (to me at least) as well. My teams won’t be the same this year.
“On the Shoulders of Giants: A Compilation,” created at Lookout Landing, is a collection of resources explaining all obscure baseball stats so even I can understand them.

Gathering all the stealth at my command I nosed the closet door open and silently stood behind him, clutching the sash—not an easy feat for a creature without opposable thumbs. — Woody Allen, in a great short story he wrote for Jan. 18’s New Yorker.
